What is a Slider?

Walter Anderson and Edgar Waldo "Billy" Ingram formed White Castle Hamburgers (whitecastle.com) in 1921 and wanted his burgers to be as low cost as possible, so he made them small and came up with his own streamlined and efficient cooking process that is still unique in that business today.

The small five-cent burger that they came up with is what is now affectionately known as a “slider”. They are small and delicious, so they seem like they can actually slide down your throat. Smile Some people call them “belly bombers”, because they slide into your stomach and explode with comfort and energy, making you feel invincible and ready to take on all the challenges that life throws
your way.

Sliders have now taken their place in the burger world and have become a subcategory of their own. These mini-burgers have a loyal following all across
America and are served up in budget burger joints for a little over a dollar and as gourmet sliders for ten dollars using Wagyu beef.

What is a Coney Island Chili Dog?

A Coney Island hot dog refers to a hot dog made from beef, topped with an allmeat chili, yellow onions and yellow mustard. The variety is a fixture in Jackson and Detroit, Michigan in the USA, served there and in much of America’s Midwest. Despite the name, the "Coney Island" style of preparation has little direct association with Coney Island, New York itself, beyond a recognition of the birthplace of the original hot dog.

The Coney Island Dog was invented by George Todoroff in Jackson, Michigan (USA), when he opened his restaurant, Todoroff's Original Coney Island, in 1914. What makes Todoroff's Coney dog unique from a hot dog is its beanless chili. By the way, you should bear in mind that the predecessor of the hot dog is the frankfurter, from Frankfurt, Germany, of course. It’s just that what we know of today as a hot dog is an American culinary creation.

Oh, and the hamburger has its roots in Hamburg, Germany, what is known as Hamburg steak, even though the idea that most people have of a hamburger is probably the stereotypical American (cheese)burger served with lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle on a round sesame seed bun.

What is a Chicago Dog?

The Chicago-style hot dog got its start from street cart vendors during the hard times of the Great Depression in America.

Money was scarce, but business was booming for these entrepreneurs, who offered a delicious hot meal in a bun for only a nickel.

They'd start with an all-beef hot dog, nestle it in a poppy seed bun and cover it with a combination of toppings: yellow mustard, sweet green relish, yellow onions, tomato wedges, pickle spears, spicy peppers and a dash of celery salt.

This unique hot dog creation with a "salad on top" and its memorable interplay of hot and cold and crisp and soft became one of America's most original fast food items and a true Chicago institution.

What are Tater Tots?

Tater Tots are a side-dish made from deep-fried, grated potatoes and are widely recognized by their crispiness, cylindrical shape and small size. They are commonly found in the USA in cafeterias and school lunch counters, as well as the supermarket frozen food aisle and some fastfood restaurants.

Tater Tots were created in 1953 when Ore-Ida founders F. Nephi Grigg and Golden Grigg were trying to figure out what to do with leftover pieces of cut-up potatoes. They came up with the novel idea of chopping up the potato pieces, then pushing them through holes and slicing off pieces of what came out on the other side.

What is S3 Burger Sauce?

It’s our home-made version of Thousand Island dressing so-to-speak. S3 stands for Super, Special, Secret. The inspiration of S3 is from a cover of a Red Hot Chili Peppers album, which boasts that there’s a “Super, Special, Secret song inside”. We use it with some of our burgers and salads. It’s also great as a dipping sauce for Tater Tots and French fries.

About packaging

We need to be responsible to the environment and our goal is to be as plastic and Styrofoam-free as possible.

  • Our take-away boxes are made of bio-degradable sugar cane pulp via mdsyn.com
  • Our bags are made of degradable materials.
  • We recycle all our papers, plastics and cans.
  • We no longer offer bottled water, and offer filtered water instead.

Will all of this change the world? Maybe, maybe not. But we think it’s the right thing to do: think globally and act locally.
